Federal authorities in Brooklyn have put an end to their $180 million international mail fraud scheme.Maria Duval and Patrick Guerin used the US mail to dupe more than 1 million desperate Americans into believing they were about to win big in the lottery, the feds charged in a 2014 complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court.

“To line their own pockets, the defendants preyed upon the superstition and desperation of millions of vulnerable Americans,” said Brooklyn US Attorney Robert Capers. “We will use every means at our disposal to protect our citizens from fraudulent schemes like this that target the lonely, the ill and the elderly.
One of the fliers urged unwitting victims that in order to receive the lottery winnings, they had to spend $50 to receive a talisman, an “Invaluable Guide to a New Life” pamphlet and to have Duval perform a “Grand Ceremony,” according to the original complaint.
“So now 2 internationally acclaimed psychics have predicted what your future holds in store for you … it’s fantastic news, [victim name] … take note of these 4 things that are very important for you: April 2, 2014, Powerball, Winnings, Problems Solved,” the ad read.
Although the two were claiming to be so psychic,they did not fore see what was about to happen in federal court,as the pair of would be psychics were then charged with mail fraud,stopping their alleged criminal enterprises.
