Over the past several years I have had the advantage and sometimes, the disadvantage to get to know and even work with many people in the paranormal community.
I have come to the conclusion that the successful people in this field all have one thing in common. They are masters at gracefully handling the bullies and the criticism. Anyone who is successful has bullies and haters, unfortunately. Successful people stand up for themselves when warranted, but they don’t let the haters distract them from their primary mission.
When it becomes relentless, we talk to each other and we help each other through the storms. Bullies are people that when confronted, are the first to proclaim that “they” are being bullied.
If it wasn’t so hurtful, it might even be laughable at times. The interesting thing to me is that the more well known and successful a person becomes, the more they are targeted. It would seem that the people who are making headway and doing great things would be commended and promoted for their accomplishments in this field.
Sadly, that is not the case. These mud-slinging, rumor-starting, bitter and JEALOUS peers are an embarrassment to everyone in our circles. I am tired of calling these people out because frankly, I think they enjoy the negative attention.
They use it to play the victim. I don’t need to mention names because we are all too familiar with these people. They have targeted many of us, time and time again. Sadly, they have made a name for themselves and it is not a good one.
We also know the people in our community that do excellent work and gracefully jump through the hoops of the bullies. Every week, they bring us guests and experiences through research.
They develop new software that we can use. They represent our field with grace and dignity. We know who those people are too. They are the ones that choose to stay focused and help us remember why we came here.
Some of them have gone on to record TV series. They are photographers and writers and researchers. They let it roll off and make us proud. They lead the way. I’m so privileged to call many of those people my friends and mentors.
At the end of the day, I think it’s important to reflect on how far we have come, the good friends we have made and most importantly, the answers that we have found a long the way and leave the haters in the back seat where they belong…. Godspeed, our awesome friends!
