The day started out like a normal day. The family had planned to go camping close to the Mount Hood National Forest. We all met up together and by the time we had all our camp stuff and gear ready it had started to get late. It was about 11:00 pm a Friday night.
We decided to take two vehicles, one reason was for safety and the other true reason, was to avoid having to shuffle our stuff around to fit.
We headed up the mount Hood Highway and started to climb into the mountain, so we had known we were entering the Mount Hood National Forest. The highway was lite up by the full moon, and the highway seemed at peace. Tall Fir trees lined both sides of the highway. 0n the right hand side of the highway was the canyon below and then the river that flowed below it. to the left was the overpowering formations of rock and boulders. The highway wove in between the two sides, slightly escalating in elevation.
I remembered we were listening to some country music. I call it my traveling music. A faster car was in a hurry and decided to pass on such a deadly highway, but this was good for me because now I could follow his head lites and see even further.
As the car passed we waited just a few moments and hit the high beams on the car. just as the high beams went on, all hell broke lose. We did not at first know what the hell had happened. A rock had bounced under neath the front of the car, hitting the steering rod. The rock sent the car swirling to the farthest side of the right of the highway nearly causing a much more serious crash. The rock was nearly 3 pounds in weight and 5 to six inches in diameter.
The first things that went through our minds were what the heck was that? then where did that come from?
We stopped for a minuet to see if kids were playing around and hitting cars with rocks, but there was not one person around, and we brought out our search flood light we have. I can not be certain and i have no direct evidence, but as i shined the flood light on the left side of the highway, it looked as if for a moment there was someone, something standing their watching us. Then it dissipated. It was Totally gone.
We got back into the car after checking for damage and continued up the mountain.
We had about 15 more miles until we had reached our destination, just slightly above the Big Eddy Camp Grounds.
After we set the tents up and unpacked our gear that night, we sat around the camp fire, discussing just what the hell had happened? after talking to the family, we had different opinions. One opinion was that we simply ran something over. Another family member had seen the rock bounce up under the car and so forth.
It was most likely my biggest belief that someone, something had thrown the larger rock from the nearby trees that stood above on the mountain boulders.
There is been many legends told of folks being hit by rocks from what they thought were yetis or the Bigfoot as many refer to. Was this one of them?
In a surprise announcement that is sending shock waves through the scientific community, biologists have confirmed that the crypt-id commonly referred to as “Bigfoot” and “Sasquatch” has been found in an area of Oregon known as Mt. Hood Territory.
Mt. Hood Territory encompasses all of Clackamas County, which stretches from portions of the Portland Metro area, including Oregon City, West Linn and Lake Oswego, through areas of the Willamette Valley eastward covering the western half of Mt. Hood. It’s in this area that biologists have confirmed the elusive creature has made its home.
I will for ever be a believer now.
